Job Description

Network Engineering Manager

Location: Hertfordshire

Salary: Up to £75,000 + £4,800 Car Allowance

Total Package: Up to £79,800

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

An opportunity has arisen to join an established specialist technology integrator, taking ownership of networking projects, supporting a talented engineering team and helping shape the future of its networking function.

We're looking for someone with a strong technical networking background who is ready to take greater responsibility for technical leadership, project delivery, engineering processes and documentation.

You might already be managing a networking team, or you could be a Senior Network Engineer looking for that next step into a more management-focused position.

What matters most is your technical capability, confidence, initiative and genuine interest in leading people and improving how engineering projects are delivered.

The business delivers high-end networking, security and integrated technology solutions across luxury residential properties, commercial environments and superyachts worldwide.

The Role

This is a varied position combining technical engineering, team leadership, project management and continuous improvement.

You'll play an important role in developing the engineering function, introducing structure and processes, and ensuring projects are properly planned, documented and delivered.

Working in a busy, project-driven environment, you'll need to be adaptable, proactive and comfortable taking ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and support a small team of Network Engineers.
  • Take ownership of networking projects from design through to delivery.
  • Develop and improve technical processes, procedures and documentation.
  • Produce and review network designs, implementation plans and technical documentation.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex networking issues.
  • Oversee Cisco networking, wireless and firewall infrastructure.
  • Assess existing networks and recommend improvements.
  • Implement proactive monitoring and capacity planning.
  • Coordinate engineering priorities, resources and project delivery.
  • Communicate technical recommendations to senior management.
  • Work directly with customers, suppliers and internal teams.

Technical Requirements

We're looking for strong hands-on networking experience, ideally including:

  • Cisco Networking: Routing, switching, BGP, OSPF, VLANs and STP.
  • Wireless: Enterprise wireless, Cisco, Aruba, RF planning and troubleshooting.
  • Network Security: Fortinet/FortiGate, firewalls, VPNs and network segmentation.
  • Infrastructure: LAN/WAN design, deployment and troubleshooting.
  • Monitoring: Network performance, capacity planning and fault identification.
  • Documentation: Network diagrams, HLDs, LLDs, change control and implementation planning.

CCNP-level knowledge would be advantageous, although demonstrable technical experience is equally important.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in speaking with both experienced technical managers and Senior Network Engineers who are ready to take the next step.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong technical networking background.
  • Enjoy taking ownership and making technical decisions.
  • Have experience mentoring, guiding or supporting other engineers.
  • Be interested in developing engineering processes and documentation.
  • Be organised and comfortable coordinating multiple projects.
  • Have a proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvements.
  • Communicate confidently with customers and senior stakeholders.
  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Want to develop their leadership and management responsibilities while remaining technically involved.

Previous formal management experience would be beneficial, but isn't essential.

We're equally interested in senior engineers who have naturally taken the lead on projects, supported colleagues, improved processes and are now looking for an opportunity to develop into a management position.

Experience within an MSP, systems integrator, technical consultancy or project-led engineering environment would be particularly relevant.

What's on Offer?

  • Up to £75,000 basic salary.
  • £4,800 annual car allowance.
  • Permanent position within an established specialist technology business.
  • Opportunity to progress into or further develop a technical management career.
  • Genuine responsibility for improving engineering processes and standards.
  • Influence over technical decisions and infrastructure improvements.
  • Opportunity to lead and develop an engineering team.
  • Varied projects across residential, commercial and marine environments.
  • Exposure to technically challenging UK and international projects.
  • A role combining technical expertise with leadership and strategic responsibility.

The position is based in Hertfordshire, with customer-site visits and international travel depending on project requirements.

Interested?

Whether you're an established Network Manager or a Senior Network Engineer looking to progress into technical leadership, we'd be interested in hearing from you.

If you enjoy networking but are equally motivated by project ownership, mentoring engineers, improving processes and taking greater responsibility, this could be an excellent next step.
