The AWS GCNA (Global Connectivity and Network Availability) Organisation is looking for a Network Development Engineer to join our Backbone Enterprise, and Regional Engineering (BERE) team. Network Development Engineers partner with our broader Infrastructure organisation on configuration standards and tools, and collaborate with Systems and Software Engineers to ensure fast, smooth roll out of new designs and products, and also deploy and sustain networking software tools.
GCNA is the backbone that connects the global AWS network, controlling the internet traffic that allows users to access information and applications worldwide. GCNA is responsible for building and designing a complex backbone network that allows internet traffic to flow efficiently between data centres and customers.
Key job responsibilitiesNetwork Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practice application, optimisation, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.
- Your core job responsibility is to design network designs, services and deployment procedures that solve many requirements.
- Decide on projects that best support your team's mission with your leadership team.
- Design ahead of customer or technology needs, predict and solve problems that have not yet occurred by creating and defending High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documents, working with internal stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps, constructing and testing your solutions, and providing support to the teams that will deploy and operate these designs.
- Create and automate deployment processes that increase quality and velocity.
- Work closely with internal customers on designs/solutions; bring those designs from concept to production.
- 5+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols as well as network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
- 5+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and ISIS in a large enterprise environment.
- 5+ years working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/or Junos.
- 3+ years of experience with Unix/Linux skills and ability to script in Python, Perl, shell.
- A Masters in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
- Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organisations.
- Expert-level certifications (e.g. CCIE, JNCIE) a plus.
- Expert-level scripting and/or automation skills in a network environment.
- Software development/programming skills are a plus.
