Job Description

To effectively manage a portfolio of litigated MOJ and OICP quantum files. The role will involve dealing with quantum cases efficiently and proactively whilst utilising effective telephone negotiation techniques to obtain the appropriate settlement.

The jobholder will be responsible for setting reserves and strategy on new instructions and dealing with all technical aspects of the file including assessing general and special damages, negotiation, and drafting of court documents and brief to Counsel.

Key Accountabilities

  • Reviewing, reporting and setting reserves and strategy on new instructions:
  • Completing an initial review file note
  • Identifying any technical issues with the file and handling appropriately
  • Valuing general and special damages on all cases and setting negotiation parameters where needed.
  • Filing AoS
  • Preparing brief to Counsel
  • Updating reserves upon receipt of evidence as required.
  • Meeting agreed performance targets
  • Adhering to Client Guidelines
  • Ensuring files are kept within ISO 9001 guidelines

Working Hours35 hours per week Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm inclusive of 1 hour unpaid lunch break. Office location for this role is Manchester, 1 day a week 4 days from home

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Understanding / experience of the Civil Procedure Rules, MOJ and OICP process
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workloads
  • Efficient in a process driven environment
  • Drive to achieve to take development opportunities when they arise with a positive attitude
  • Calm under pressure with the ability to re-prioritise and delegate effectively when required
  • Confident with ability to take initiative to innovate and adapt to changing situations
  • Confidence to seek advice and guidance when dealing with new tasks
  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow instruction with attention to detail
  • Ability to recognise when sensitivity and tact are required
  • Effectively work within a team
  • Experience of valuing general and special damages utilising a variety of tools including JC Guidelines and case law.
  • Preferably experience of quantum negotiations.
  • File handling experience within a law practice or Insurer.

Required Soft Skills:

  • Pre-action protocols.
  • Adapting to client protocols and adopting a client focussed approach.
  • Ensuring processes happen on time and chasing documents as and when required, from insurer clients, claimant solicitors, the courts and any other third parties.
