Your new role
As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be part of our expanding UK team working on healthcare projects both domestically and internationally. You will focus on technical delivery excellence and developing a strong understanding of client care.
We offer flexible working arrangements, allowing you to work from any of our primary offices or from home. Current projects include Hillerod Hospital Denmark, Cambridge Children's Hospital, Kettering General Hospital, and KEMH in the Falklands Islands.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing a team of Mechanical Engineers and technicians, collaborating with other engineering disciplines.
- Enhancing the profile and reputation of Ramboll and our UK Healthcare Team.
- Developing and overseeing mechanical concepts and designs.
- Conducting detailed design work, including calculations, using industry software such as Hevacomp, MagiCad, IES, Revit, etc.
- Inspiring and motivating your project team members.
- Engaging with clients and partners, representing Ramboll at meetings.
- Supporting key accounts and developing relationships with new clients.
- Contributing to our UK Healthcare sector business development strategies.
- Implementing best practices to deliver sustainable, zero-carbon, innovative, and high-quality services.
- Managing projects and acting as the project manager for mechanical engineering tasks.

About you
We support your personal and professional growth from day one. For this role, the following qualifications, skills, and experience are essential:
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering on UK projects, preferably healthcare or complex, high-resilience projects.
- Leadership skills that foster a collaborative and inclusive culture.
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Membership in MCIBSE, MIMechE, or MIHEEM (or supporting qualifications for membership).
- Strong understanding of digital design delivery using Revit/BIM 360.
- Excellent project management skills across multiple projects.
- Understanding of project risks (technical and commercial).
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
- Motivational and confident in engaging clients and team members across borders.
- Autonomous work ethic on technical aspects of the discipline.
