Job Description
Membership Officer - Professional Membership Officer

Location: Abington, Cambridge • Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term • Hours: Full time • Salary: £29,844.05 - £35,000.00 • Closing Date: 2nd July 2026

Responsibilities
  • Recruit new members and manage the membership application process, including registration with the Engineering Council.
  • Act as the first point of contact for members and non members by telephone and email, following enquiries through to completed application.
  • Learn and apply membership requirements and processes, update the institution's database, and work with the team to improve processes and increase digital processing.
  • Conduct ongoing market research via surveys and other methods to understand what members value.
  • Develop messaging and materials on membership benefits, monitor and record results of recruitment campaigns.
  • Build and maintain senior level contacts with key employers and stakeholders, turning contacts into new members.
  • Represent the institution at events, presenting and recruiting new members and increasing awareness with other member institutions and societies.
  • Lead promotional activities to increase member numbers.
Qualifications
  • A degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in a customer facing role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with established procedures.
  • Creative thinking and experience in process improvements and automation.
  • Excellent organisational skills, meeting deadlines and paying high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of business financial administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint and familiarity with website tools.
Desirable
  • Experience in member services and a membership management CRM system.
  • Understanding of the role and functions of an international professional member based organisation.
  • Sales experience.
  • Track record of process improvement and automation.
  • Experience delivering presentations to varied audiences.
  • Project management abilities.
