Job Description

This role sits at the heart of Member Services and the corporate core at Sandwell Council, supporting the Council's ambition to become truly outstanding.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Member Development Officer who can provide trusted, high-quality support to elected Members, including the Leader, Cabinet, opposition Members, Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Working in a fast paced and politically sensitive environment, you will play a central role in ensuring Members are confident, capable and well supported in delivering their responsibilities.

In this role you will:

  • Provide high-level, confidential support to Members, ensuring the effective functioning of the Council's corporate core
  • Lead the design and delivery of Member induction and ongoing development programmes
  • Ensure effective coordination and support across Member Services, including civic and mayoral functions
  • Support wider service delivery, including workforce development, training and business planning
  • Contribute to budget monitoring, performance management and continuous service improvement

  • An excellent communicator with strong organisational and coordination skills
  • Experience of working in a political or Member-focused environment
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
  • A high level of professionalism, discretion and confidence in handling sensitive information
  • A strong commitment to delivering high-quality services and driving continuous improvement
