Job overview

We are recruiting for a Medical Secretary to provide medical secretary provision to the Valency Dementia in Older Peoples Mental Health Service.

You will be part of the North Cornwall CMHT/DOPMH wider admin team and your role will involve ensuring high levels of service are provided at all times, across the Locality, providing service support overall when required.

The post-holder will be required to commute to Launceston on Thursdays to support the weekly MDT meeting.

Banham House has on-site car parking, which offers free parking to staff.

This post is working 15 hours a week, working on Thursdays and Fridays 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. as part of a job share opportunity.

Main duties of the job

To provide an efficient and effective Medical Secretary service to a specific Consultant Psychiatrist and their medical team.

The post holder is required to manage their day to day workload and use their initiative without supervision which will require informed judgement, excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritise competing demands.

To ensure effective lines of communication between team members, patients, and others, whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Person specification Education, Qualifications & Experience
  • NVQ 3 Business Administration or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • RSA/OCR III Word-Processing or equivalent qualification or experience
  • RSA/OCR II Audio-Typing or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Computer literate with experience of spreadsheets and databases
  • Medical Secretary Diploma or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • RSA/OCR III Audio-Typing or equivalent
  • Previous experience working as a secretary in the NHS
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure whilst remaining calm
  • Ability to manage own workload and work independently
  • Ability to prioritise and work on own initiative
  • Problem solving
