Job Description
Job Summary

Act under the supervision of the Consultant in the provision of a medical service to patients and support the Consultants in their duties. The fundamental philosophy guiding this position is to promote and preserve the Bon Secours Mission, Values and Ethos.

Responsibilities

Provide direct care for patients including taking history and physical examinations, ordering imaging investigations, coordinating care with inpatient teams, and organising follow up. Complete the inpatient drug Kardex and hospital admission note to avoid duplication. Assist with admissions from direct ward referral, day case patients, or transfers when inpatient teams are overwhelmed, as directed by the attending Consultant. Assess, review, verify and document findings requested by the Consultant or Nursing Staff in a timely and legible manner. Provide clinical cover for procedures in departments. Prescribe medications as required by Consultant review or Nursing staff. Offer ongoing assistance and support to GIM Consultants and give instant feedback on issues requiring attention. Educate colleagues and Nursing staff. Participate in the NCHD On Call rota and contribute to the M&M meeting. Respond to emergency situations and adverse occurrences per protocol. Liaise with all Hospital staff and NCHD colleagues for effective teamwork and safe outcomes. Engage with medical education of students and Physician Associate students. Undertake administrative duties such as issuing sickness certificates. Contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives. Act professionally, safeguard patient care, and protect the reputation of Bon Secours Hospital. Adhere to policies on blood guidelines, infection control, JCI policies, work hours, overtime, and health & safety regulations. Perform any other duties reasonably required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess a Medical Degree.
  • Minimum 5 years post qualification experience.
  • Current full registration with the Medical Council.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
  • Sufficient medical, diagnostic and management experience to fulfil the functions of the post.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Excellent supervisory, interpersonal and communication skills with high capacity for responsibility and initiative.
  • Ability to adapt to rapid changes within the Hospital.
  • Working knowledge of the English language.
ESSENTIAL PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
  • Good team worker.
  • Motivated and methodical with superior attention to detail.
