Job Description
Main duties of the job
  • Opening up/locking up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with practice protocols
  • Processing telephone requests for appointments, visits or telephone consultations, ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Processing and distributing incoming and outgoing mail
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Filing and retrieving paperwork
  • Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
  • Computer data entry, processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, team members and associated healthcare agencies
  • Clearing and re stacking consulting rooms as required
  • Providing clerical assistance to practice staff (word/data processing, filing, photocopying, scanning)
  • Ordering, re ordering and monitoring stationery and other supplies
  • Dealing with clinical waste
  • Providing refreshments for staff and visitors and keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy
  • Keeping the reception area, notice boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and obstruction free
  • Processing referrals
  • Facilitating effective communication between patients, primary/secondary care teams and other healthcare agencies
  • Other duties requested by the Reception Manager or Practice Manager as required
Qualifications / Person Specification
  • Previous GP Practice Medical Receptionist Experience - Essential
  • Medical System (SystmOne) or EMIS Experience - Essential
  • Medical Receptionist experience of at least 1 year - Required
