Job Description
Medical Receptionist

The post holder will have reception and clerical duties which support the smooth and efficient running of the Managed Practice. The post does not carry managerial responsibility; responsibilities support the General Practitioners and Practice Nurses and are supervised by the Senior Receptionist/Practice Manager.

The post holder will be responsible for the organisation of their own workload, including clerical and reception duties on a daily basis, ensuring effective use of all resources available. They will act professionally at all times, communicate politely and respectfully over the telephone and with patients, and maintain strict confidentiality and excellent customer care.

Main duties
  • Ensuring correct personal data is held on patients using Vision system.
  • Accurately recording data within Vision system as directed by Senior Receptionist, Practice Manager or members of the Healthcare Team.
  • Accurately filing correspondence, reports, results etc in the correct patient record, adhering to practice protocol.
  • Undertaking general reception duties such as greeting patients and answering the telephone, dealing with queries or referring to appropriate staff.
  • Undertaking insurance and medical report administration.
  • Preparing consulting rooms and monitoring waiting areas.
  • Providing cover for colleagues during periods of leave.
  • Ensuring work is completed during the working day.
Welsh Skills

Welsh speaking/listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above are desirable. This is not essential but considered an advantage.

Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills - GCSE English and Maths.
  • Attendance at Practice Receptionist training or AMSPAR course.
Experience
  • Experience working with the public in a busy environment and within a multi disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of how a busy general practice functions.
  • Experience working within a busy general practice setting.
  • Knowledge of the GMS contract.
  • Awareness of wider NHS issues.
Skills
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use keyboard.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to use clinical system.
  • Administrative and secretarial skills.
  • Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above.
