Job Description
Overview

We're looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join the busy Operations & Maintenance team at Portsmouth Naval Base. This is a varied and hands-on role where you'll play a vital part in keeping the base running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on a range of equipment - from pumps, steam and boiler systems to hoists, winches, saws, grinders, and other workshop machinery.
  • Supporting the Boiler House team with the safe running and upkeep of the steam plant.
  • Fault-finding, repairs and testing to keep systems safe, reliable, and fully compliant.
  • Using mobile systems to manage and complete work orders.
  • Working both independently and as part of a close-knit team to meet operational KPIs.
  • Occasionally providing on-call support for harbour radar and critical systems.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Completed a mechanical apprenticeship or have proven experience and knowledge in mechanical theory and principles.
  • Gained or be working towards industry accredited qualifications such as NVQ, City & Guilds, Gas Safe, Steam accreditation.
  • Competence in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment.
  • Hands-on experience of carrying out mechanical maintenance, fault finding, rectification and reporting.
  • Familiarity with technical specifications and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining efficiency and accuracy.
  • Knowledge and application of Health and Safety best practice.
  • IT literacy and confidence using mobile maintenance systems.

Qualifications & Memberships
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in a mechanical discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance.
