Role Title: Mechanical Engineer

Location: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as primary: Derby, Warrington or Manchester

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Mechanical Engineer, to be involved in industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.

Responsibilities
  • Support the design of the SMR containment structural components and related systems engineering ownership as part of the Containment Vessel Structure team.
  • Work within a core team responsible for the delivery of critical path components with a significant number of system and component interfaces.
  • Apply systems engineering to develop the maturity of the Containment System.
  • Manage requirements, design data, and system modelling within IBM DOORS in line with business governance processes.
  • Ensure the requirement set and systems engineering capability progresses to a detailed design standard through the next design gate.
  • Update supporting documentation and drawings (P&IDs, System Design Descriptions, HAZOPs) as the design matures.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure clarity and visibility across departments.
  • Develop and understand technical and through-life requirements of systems, structures, and components (SSCs); perform optioneering studies to determine optimal design, manufacturing, and construction solutions aligned with the SMR modular build philosophy. System engineering functions are expected to be 25% of weekly work.
Qualifications

Key capabilities include:

  • Experience in systems engineering and interface management for complex structural components.
  • Familiarity with requirements management and modelling tools (e.g., IBM DOORS).
  • Ability to develop design maturity through documentation such as P&IDs, System Design Descriptions, and HAZOPs.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across multiple stakeholders.
  • Understanding of through-life requirements for SSCs and optioneering studies.
Pay and benefits

Salary: £40,000 - £52,500 DOE plus:

  • Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
  • Benefits Allowance - £2,200 per annum
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions
  • Holidays - 28 days (+ public holidays) with the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
