Job Description

A Japanese international shipping company and LNG carrier is currently recruiting a Maritime Operations Analyst to work in their London office.
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of crewing, with a focus on validating invoices, preparing crew budgets and analysing cost variances, to ensure accuracy of all crew-related expenses.
The ideal candidate should have analytical skills, attention to detail, communication skills, and proficiency in Excel.

Maritime Operations Analyst Main Responsibilities:
Scrutinize all manning related expenses and ensure unbudgeted expense is explained
Familiarise with crew pre-delivery and operating budgets
Understand crew wage scales, crew cost breakdowns
Work with Finance department to agree accuracy of invoices and statement of accounts from manning agents in line with contractual and budgeted
Check with manning agents for any inconsistencies encountered within their monthly invoices
Assist in the development of crewing budgets
Verify submitted proposals from manning agents and in particular, impact of increased costs arising from amended wage scale
Present the budget in a format suitable for shareholder approval and financial analysis
Review monthly operating expense reports (OPEX) to ensure actual expenditure is in line with budget
Maintain relevant monthly records and attend monthly/quarterly meetings
Forecasting year end projections
Attend periodic Manning Meetings when required
Verify and process manning related invoices to ensure expenses are accurately allocated
Check statements from vendors to ensure all invoices are processed timely without errors or duplications
Assist in the investigation of variances and provide quantitative explanation of actual expense versus budget
Monitor and capture expense arising from P&I Personal Injury/illness claims, raise debit notes for deductibles and outstanding costs at claim closure

Maritime Operations Analyst Ideal Candidate:
Experience working in a Ship Management Company
Business level fluency in English
Background in accounting principles is preferred
Shipping experience (an advantage but not mandatory)
Fully competent with MS office software, especially Microsoft Excel, and proficient with all other company software applications
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Sharp analytical skills
Attention to detail
Teamwork and able to work independently
Good time management to meet deadlines
