Job Description
Overview

As part of our continued support to a major customer in the automotive industry, we are looking for a Manufacturing Equipment Lead to be based on site with a Global Automotive manufacturer in Cheshire.

This is a contract position that has been deemed outside IR35 - pending contractor assessment. The rate will depend on experience and seniority.

Responsibilities

The role will act as the interface between the OEM and suppliers, as well as internal partners, for General Assembly. Responsibilities include:

  • Using and complying with the OEM's procedures for General Assembly contract management (DMOV_CAR00_0215).
  • Following the OEM's guidebook for contract management (00963_20_00604), with daily updates as part of the contract.
  • Updating PGi v2 Tool for each contract and project deliverables.
  • Updating restrictions list in the MERLIN tool for the General Assembly shop.
  • Participating in problem-solving and fault analysis meetings.
  • Leading tests during adjustment phases.
  • Producing intervention and restart reports post-modifications.
  • Producing reports in SACHA between trial times.
  • Participating in weekly project reviews and producing weekly progress reports.

The reports will include:

  • Alerts for delays, costs, or quality issues.
  • Progress on General Assembly contract management deliverables.
  • Status of MERLIN restrictions and standards compliance.
  • Preparation and submission of acceptance forms.

During preparation:

  • Validating specifications, conducting technical and economical offer comparisons.

Completing:

  • End of studies, supplier release approval, equipment start of production, safety acceptance, final acceptance.

Tracking installation progress through key phases and deliverables, including:

  • Preparation: identifying input data, validating specifications, creating/modifying PGi, assessing feasibility.
  • Requirements: identifying applicable requirements, monitoring files, engaging with technical leaders, documenting needs, analyzing processes, and ensuring equipment repairability.

Consultations and Orders:

  • Managing schedule monitoring files, presenting projects to suppliers, and overseeing technical and economic comparisons.

Project Monitoring:

  • Reviewing ERP data, participating in milestone assessments, monitoring interfaces, issues, and technical amendments, managing risks.

Tests and Acceptance:

  • Monitoring acceptance tests, coordinating resources, ensuring compliance, and finalizing acceptance reports, including lessons learned.
Qualifications
  • HNC/Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Essential Skills
  • High understanding of manufacturing equipment installation, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
Desired Skills
  • Knowledge of automotive process engineering, project management, and excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to work autonomously and flexibly.
Experience
  • Relevant experience or degree, automotive equipment engineering knowledge, experience in design and installation of manufacturing equipment, familiarity with MS Office and CAD systems like AutoCad, Spacevision, or Catia.
