Job Description: The opportunity:We have an exciting opportunity within the Manufacturing Engineering function for a Manufacturing Engineer (All Levels), working as part of the DragonFire Team.
You will join the team to develop, improve, and support the operations manufacturing processes and equipment, enabling world-class production of Leonardo products. You will be responsible for developing robust solutions, considering their impact on broader project issues. You will plan and deliver your work across medium-term horizons, provide complex technical advice to internal and external customers, and develop others. This role will focus on Delivery (Sustaining), with opportunities to support NPI (New Product Introduction) projects.

The role is based in Edinburgh on-site, with occasional remote working possible.
What you'll do as a Manufacturing Engineer:- Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; understanding feedback from Leonardo operators; conferring with equipment vendors or external suppliers.
- Prepare for and organize Manufacturing Maturity Reviews, maintain governance through the Lifecycle Management process, and create/contribute/review/lead Manufacturing Plans.
- Provide manufacturing decision-making information with resolution proposals by reviewing production schedules, labour and material costs, and estimating future requirements.
- Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Resolve complex product and/or production issues and constraints (e.g., bottlenecks) on the shop floor, reacting efficiently to escalations from manufacturing teams.
- Improve manufacturing efficiency through capacity analysis, workflow simulation, space requirements, and equipment layout planning.
- Review manufacturing documentation, including input to risk assessments, COSHH data, technical reports, and specifications.
- Ensure product and process quality by designing methods, validating/verifying process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
- Contribute to failure investigations using known problem-solving techniques (e.g., 8D).
- Maintain manufacturing data such as routings, production plans, control plans, and electronic work instructions.
- Identify continuous improvement activities to develop skills and competencies within Manufacturing Engineering.
- Complete improvement and development projects by training and interacting with the manufacturing engineer community.
- Promote a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge exploitation.
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior team members to enhance overall capability.
- Support customer and user engagement, and contribute to product road maps with domain experience.
- Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
- Travel approximately 10% within the UK and worldwide.

What we need from you:- Essential: Manufacturing engineering ability, via HNC qualification or equivalent experience and knowledge.
- Desirable: HND or above in an engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
- People management and leadership skills, including performance and change management.
- Ability to influence and negotiate using data and analysis.
- Understanding of operational frameworks and business processes.
- Knowledge of cross-functional and commercial processes and their impacts.
- Ability to own work packages, plan, and schedule workloads.
- Operational understanding of project work and team impacts.
- Experience with multiple phases of the Product Life Cycle and associated processes.
- Experience peer reviewing within product teams and ensuring actions are implemented.
- Knowledge of risk/reward processes in engineering activities.
- Effective communication of technical concepts in non-technical terms.
- Confidence to challenge and respond to technical/process issues.
- Effective interaction with customers and suppliers.
- Experience in capability or process development and implementing changes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
