Role - Managing Quantity Surveyor

Location -Middlesbrough

We're looking for a proactive and collaborative Managing Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial leadership across a diverse portfolio of work and contribute to our continued growth

What you'll be doing:

As our Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be a valued commercial partner within the business, helping to drive performance, improve processes, and support high quality project delivery. Your responsibilities will include:

Championing safety and promoting a positive, safe working environment across all projects.

Working closely with the Operations Manager to shape project strategy and deliver successful outcomes.

Leading, supporting and developing a commercial team, ensuring best practice and consistent processes.

Preparing monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and commercial reports for presentation to Directors.

Overseeing forecasting across projects to maintain commercial accuracy and control.

Leading subcontract procurement, including negotiations on terms, pricing and programme.

Managing weekly progress and risk reduction meetings with clients and subcontractors.

Supporting estimating and bid teams with contractual expertise.

Implementing and maintaining effective cost control processes across the portfolio.

Identifying, preparing and submitting contractual claims while promoting dispute avoidance.

Leading commercial and contractual negotiations with clients.

Advising on procurement strategies for current and future projects.

Conducting staff training, coaching and development reviews.

Providing commercial support to planning and project controls teams.

Collaborating with the Commercial Director on new cost systems and reporting tools.

Acting with integrity and professionalism, ensuring value and responsible profit are delivered.

About you:

We're looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and inspirational leadership, including:

  • A relevant degree or strong experience in a commercial role within construction.
  • Experience managing large individual schemes or multiple smaller projects.
  • CSCS card (appropriate to role).
  • Experience leading and developing teams.
  • A strong understanding of standard forms of contract.
  • Good IT skills, including Excel, Word and cost/contract management systems (CEMAR, Oracle).
  • Effective communication, stakeholder management and negotiation abilities.
  • A good understanding of construction processes and project delivery.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Professional membership (MCIOB/MRICS) or working towards it is desirable.
