Summary
A Principal Contractor, operating throughout England and Wales, delivering multi-disciplinary buildings and civil engineering projects for Network Rail, has an opportunity for a Managing Quantity Surveyor who will take on the responsibility of delivering high-value works and structures within the Rail sector.
As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Commercial Responsibility for the company portfolio of works, managing Reactive work, which includes a requirement to also cover the Wigan Office as appropriate.
- Manage and provide support to a dedicated commercial team, carrying out regular job chats, PDR's and helping to develop staff through PDP's.
- Provide advice to the commercial team/project staff on commercial and contractual matters including reviewing and drafting correspondence.
- Supply relevant commercial information/reports to the Commercial Manager or Commercial Director for review at specified intervals.
- Manage and produce formal reports to the Commercial Manager or Commercial Director for inclusion in the quarterly commercial board report and Construction Board.
- Monitor contract compliance against statutory requirements.
- Recruit in line with the company strategy.
- Develop client relationships, achieving a progressive improvement in Customer satisfaction. Maintain, establish and develop regular contact/meetings with the Client.
- Assist the Directors in helping to develop Company strategies.
- Attend all commercial meetings internal/external relevant to the works.
- Oversee/monitor contract costs against agreed budgets.
- Develop and monitor the use of cost and financial reporting systems. Prepare and submit cash flow and all forecasting as required.
- Comply and promote the company safety policy.
- Ensure that Client payment and cash collection is achieved in accordance with the conditions of contract.
- Monitor the change process and interject as required when support is needed.
- Identify potential commercial/financial risk and opportunity and evaluate options to mitigate/realise.
- Oversee and monitor the production, submission and agreement of final accounts in accordance with the contractual requirements, meeting all Client KPI's.
- Oversee the procedures and liaise with the Supply Chain for the procurement, negotiation, and placing of sub contract and Supplier orders.
- Oversee the procedures for certification of contract payments/variations and settling final accounts to sub-contractors in line with agreed terms and conditions.
- Any other duties as may be reasonably required.
Seeking a candidate with:
- Strong quantity surveying experience working on reactive frameworks ideally within the rail sector.
- Minimum HND/HNC.
- Track record in delivering forecasted margins.
- Demonstrable ability to lead a team.
- Similar experience working within a contracting environment.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying.
Desirable:
- RICS/CES membership.
