Job Description

A new and exciting opportunity for a Managing Director in Delay based in Manchester, within a specialist disputes division of a premium consultancy.

You will be involved in both the operational management of the business and undertaking forensic delay analysis and Expert Witness work.

The client operates across all sectors of the construction and engineering industry, offering a diverse range of project exposure on domestic and international projects.

This role is suitable for current Directors with significant forensic delay analysis experience on live projects/contracts and experience acting as an Expert Witness.

Responsibilities and Duties

Specific duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Conducting forensic analysis in alternative dispute resolution (ADR)
  • Providing clear and impartial evidence for tribunals (ADR)
  • Managing and developing the planning and delay team
  • Controlling, managing, and reporting on contractual obligations from procurement to final account
  • Determining schedules, monitoring programmes, and assessing risks
  • Writing reports for negotiations and formal dispute resolution procedures including adjudication, mediation, and litigation; acting as an advocate or neutral expert
  • Providing accurate assessments of progress
  • Engaging in business development to generate new work and clients
Desired Skills and Experience
  • 10+ years of experience as a construction project planner, with formal disputes experience working with a claims and disputes consultancy
  • Experience testifying as an expert witness
  • Existing projects/clients to bring into the business
  • Ability to produce and interpret programmes and schedules for live projects
  • Exceptional report writing skills
  • Comfortable in a client-facing role
  • Leadership and management experience
  • An ambitious individual aligned with the company's core values and growth plans
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • Degree in a construction-related field or equivalent qualification (desired)
  • Membership to a professional body such as CIOB or CIArb (advantageous)
  • Relevant MSc in engineering or Construction Law and Disputes (LLM) (strong advantage)
