Locum Band 8a Mammographer
Location: Leicester, UK
Earnings: Negotiable Hourly Rate
Contract Type: Ongoing
Working Hours: 08:00 - 17:00 Mon-Weds

We have an exciting opportunity for an adventurous Band 8a Mammographer to join our dynamic team in Leicester on a locum basis. This role is perfect for anyone looking to expand their breadth of experience in a bustling city while enjoying the flexibility that an ongoing contract provides. It is primarily a clinical role where you will act as part of a team responsible for providing the efficient daily delivery of the breast imaging service. This ensures that a high standard of patient care is delivered whilst maintaining a quality service to agreed standards.

As a Band 8a Mammographer, you will provide a high-quality mammographic service, including screening and symptomatic breast clinics as well as surveillance and family history programmes for the women of Leicestershire and Rutland.

What you will do
  • Adhere to NHS Breast Screening Programme guidelines, including monitoring of equipment and quality standards
  • Prepare all mammographic equipment prior to use to ensure it's working correctly and safely
  • Interview and support women attending for breast imaging, ensuring an encouraging attitude to the process
  • Manage mammographic workflow efficiently
  • Ensure the care and comfort of patients in the Breast Care Centre, respecting their privacy, dignity, and cultural beliefs
  • Perform technical administrative tasks, maintaining accurate patient information on Radiology Information and PACS systems, including the NHS BSP system
Qualifications and Skills required
  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers/BSc in Radiography
  • UK NHS Breast Screening Programme Certificate of Competency/Postgraduate award in mammographic practice
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC)
  • Skilled in mammography equipment and breast positioning techniques
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Tests of mammography equipment
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Good health and physical coordination
  • Ability to manoeuvre mammography equipment and assist with patient transfer
  • Flexibility to work at other UHL hospital sites and mobile units
  • Full clean UK driving licence (manual) and ability to use own car if required
