Maintenance Surveyor Fire Safety

Location: Properties across Hertfordshire, Essex, North London, with occasional travel to Norfolk and Suffolk

Type: Permanent, full-time (37.5 hpw, Monday to Friday)

Salary: Up to £50,000, based on skills, qualifications, and experience

Typical day as a Fire Safety Surveyor

  • Conduct pre- and post-inspections of fire risk actions completed by contractors and colleagues across Hertfordshire, Essex, and North London
  • Provide technical advice and support to trades, maintenance managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure compliance and high-quality service
  • Manage contracts and monitor progress against building works schedules, using customer insight to meet service promises
  • Ensure all works meet health and safety standards with zero tolerance for non-compliance
  • Oversee Fire Safety Contractors, including Fire Alarms, AOV Systems, and related systems
  • Manage Passive Fire Safety Contractors for fire door replacements, remediations, and compartmentation/firestopping projects, along with yearly asbestos re-inspections

You have

  • Building surveying experience, including property condition and Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) actions, with the ability to specify remedial works for active and passive projects
  • CIOB Level 6 Certificate in Fire Safety or equivalent
  • Ideally RICS or CIOB professional registration, or working towards it
  • Current knowledge of building repairs, construction, and safety
  • Ability to manage budgets and control expenditure
  • A proactive, self-starting approach, capable of working independently to manage your patch and deliver projects on time and within budget

Job details

  • Work Monday to Friday, with flexibility to shape your own schedule around commitments
  • This is a hybrid role: typically one or two days a week working from home or a local office, with the rest out in the field
  • Comfortable using technology for record updates, budget and KPI management, online learning, and collaboration
  • A Standard DBS check is required; we will cover the cost
  • You'll need a vehicle insured for business purposes; mileage will be reimbursed
