Maintenance Surveyor

Overview

Repairs Surveyor (Interim) - Wandsworth. £30 per hour (Umbrella) - Initial 3-month contract - Start ASAP. Field-based across Wandsworth with hybrid admin time.

Join a busy public sector housing repairs service in Wandsworth, adding hands-on technical capacity across responsive and void works. We're seeking a practical, people-focused Repairs Surveyor who can keep jobs moving, manage contractors and deliver a quality outcome for residents.

What you'll be doing

• Carry out pre- and post-inspections for responsive repairs and minor works, issuing clear scopes and SOR-based schedules.
• Diagnose building defects (incl. damp & mould) and produce proportionate specifications with accurate costings/variations.
• Undertake void property inspections, setting works specs to re-let standard and monitoring turnaround.
• Manage day-to-day contractor performance: progress, quality, H&S and compliance-closing jobs right-first-time.
• Maintain robust records on the repairs management system, updating notes, photos and approvals.
• Provide customer-focused updates to residents and escalate safeguarding or disrepair risks as needed.

What you'll need

• Proven experience in social housing repairs/voids surveying.
• Strong working knowledge of building pathology, NHF Schedule of Rates, and repairs legislation/guidance.
• Confident with handhelds/IT systems and clear written reporting.
• Ability to travel across Wandsworth for site visits (driving licence preferred).
• Relevant trade/technical qualification (e.g., HNC/HND) and Asbestos Awareness (desirable).
