Job Description 6 months contract with a local authority SummaryThe Maintenance Manager is a pivotal role within the City Council, tasked with ensuring that all properties in the council's portfolio adhere to statutory, health and safety, and compliance standards. This position provides technical leadership, manages operational delivery functions, oversees contractors, and ensures that maintenance services are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. The Maintenance Manager will act as the responsible person for all Health & Safety matters within the service and contribute to long term planning, compliance management, and strategic asset maintenance.
Responsibilities- Ensure all properties meet required statutory compliance and health and safety standards.
- Act as the responsible person for all Health & Safety matters within the service.
- Manage statutory compliance testing, including gas servicing, electrical works, fire safety, water safety, and asbestos.
- Oversee and verify all statutory records, including testing certificates, PAT testing, fixed wiring, emergency lighting, alarms, and boiler records.
- Assess property risks, including asbestos, and determine appropriate remedial actions.
- Extensive practical experience in building maintenance, engineering, or a built environment role (minimum 5 years).
- Significant experience applying building and occupier Health & Safety regulations.
- Demonstrable experience managing asbestos and Legionella, including identification and remedial actions.
- A relevant building maintenance/engineering qualification (e.g., HNC, City & Guilds, Certificate in Construction, Design and Maintenance) or equivalent experience.
- Up-to-date knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 (ability to complete within 3 months).
- Strong understanding of Health and Safety issues; ideally NEBOSH qualified or IOSH Level 3 Certificate (or equivalent).
- Working hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Work arrangement: 5 days per week in the office for the first 3 months, with the opportunity to work one day from home depending on skill and reliability in the role.
- Site visits: 80% office, 20% site split.

- Background check: Standard DBS required.
