The machine learning engineering chapter at Allianz Direct is a global team consisting of experienced machine learning engineers that have been pioneering new use cases and building a modern machine learning platform. The team is responsible for the development, deployment, and maintenance of machine learning models in all 5 countries where Allianz Direct is active. We are looking for a ML engineer to grow the team.

The work

You will get to:

• Work with experienced ML engineers and focus on building one or two machine learning solutions at a time, end to end.
• Dive into a range of challenging modelling problems around our pricing engine, customer contact center, claim processes and operations. You can expect to tackle problems using classification, regression, clustering, time series, anomaly detection, survival modelling and large language models.
• Collaborate with engineers to embed a productionized model into company processes.
• Help build our machine learning platform for development and deploying a range of models.
• Contribute to our continuously evolving way of working and internal packages.
• Work on a modern tech stack. We use Python, Databricks, AzureML, MLflow and have CPU and GPU clusters available for large training jobs.
• Work together with diverse international colleagues based in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Spain

Your profile

• Academic degree (MSc or PhD), preferably in a relevant technical field such as computer science, data science, physics, econometrics, or engineering.
• A love for coding. Programming experience in Python is required. Open-source contributions and software development experience are a strong plus.
• A strong foundation in machine learning theory. You know how to properly apply a wide range of algorithms to classification, regression, and other data science problems. Experience working with LLMs is a plus.
• You are a self-learner. You are eager to keep developing and improving, and stay on top of the latest developments. You enjoy both sharing knowledge and learning from others.
• Experience applying modern machine learning models to business problems and bringing them to production using MLOps tools.
• Fluent in English. Able to communicate complex topics in a clear and precise manner to audiences with different backgrounds and at different levels.
