Locum Litigation Lawyer Opportunities

Rate: Highly competitive hourly rates

Locations: Remote, Hybrid and On-Site Opportunities Across the UK

Contract: Locum / Interim (short, medium and long-term assignments)

I'm partnering with a number of Local Authorities and public bodies across the UK who are seeking experienced Litigation Lawyers to support busy in-house legal teams. These opportunities offer varied and challenging casework, flexible working arrangements and the chance to make a meaningful impact in public sector litigation.

About the Role

You will manage a broad contentious caseload, providing high-quality legal advice and representation. The role will involve both advisory and litigation work, including preparation of cases, drafting, negotiations and court appearances.

Although many assignments offer hybrid or remote working, you will be required to attend the office when necessary for:

  • Induction
  • Service or team meetings
  • Hearings or court attendances
  • Case conferences
Key Responsibilities

You will typically handle a varied litigation caseload which may include:

  • Civil litigation claims (including small claims, fast-track and multi-track)
  • Contract and commercial disputes
  • Public law matters and judicial reviews
  • Housing litigation (injunctions, disrepair, possession etc.)
  • Anti-social behaviour and enforcement
  • Education litigation
  • Debt recovery and financial litigation
  • Regulatory and enforcement matters
  • Complex disclosure and evidence management

Additional duties may include:

  • Drafting pleadings, legal arguments, orders, and witness statements
  • Conducting or preparing for advocacy in the County Court, Magistrates' Court or High Court
  • Providing advice to internal clients and senior stakeholders
  • Managing urgent applications and time-sensitive matters
  • Supervising junior lawyers or paralegals, where required
Requirements

To be eligible, candidates should:

  • Hold a valid practising certificate and be authorised to practise in England as a Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives
  • Have demonstrable experience in civil, public law, housing or general litigation
  • Be able to manage a varied contentious caseload with minimal supervision
  • Work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Be confident in providing clear, practical advice to non-legal stakeholders
  • Have advocacy experience, or a willingness to develop advocacy skills
  • Ideally have experience supervising or mentoring junior team members
What's on Offer
  • Flexible working arrangements (remote, hybrid or office-based roles)
  • Competitive hourly rates
  • Supportive, well-structured legal teams
  • Long-term contract extension potential
  • Diverse casework that builds strong public sector litigation experience

Assignments are available across England, Scotland and Wales, ranging from generalist litigation roles to highly specialist contentious positions.
