Locum Head of Legal

South Yorkshire Hybrid Working 3-Month Initial Contract Immediate Start

A Local Authority in South Yorkshire is seeking an experienced Locum Head of Legal to provide interim leadership and support during a period of absence.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior local government lawyer to join a well-established legal services team in a strategic leadership role.

The Role

As Locum Head of Legal, you will lead and oversee the Legal Services function, providing strategic legal advice and operational leadership across a broad range of local authority matters.

You will have responsibility for teams covering:

  • Property
  • Procurement & Contracts
  • Litigation
  • Adult Social Care
  • Children's Social Care

You will also provide oversight of:

  • Information Governance
  • Data Protection
  • Subject Access Requests (SARs)
  • Corporate Complaints

The Practice Manager will report directly into this position.

Requirements

To be considered, you will have:

  • Previous local government experience.
  • Significant experience within a local authority legal services environment.
  • Senior management experience, including leading and developing legal teams.
  • A broad understanding of local government law.
  • Knowledge of Adult Social Care and Children's Social Care legal matters.

Contract Details

  • Initial 3-month contract.
  • ASAP start.
  • 3-4 days per week preferred.
  • Full-time hours considered for the right candidate.
  • Hybrid working.
  • Approximately 1-2 days per week in the office.
  • Competitive rate, negotiable depending on experience.

This assignment would suit an experienced local government lawyer who can quickly provide strategic leadership and operational support within a busy legal services team.
