Job Description

Job Title: Locum Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP)

Location: Urgent Care / Walk-in Centre / Emergency Department
Contract Type: Locum - Ad-hoc
Working Hours: Flexible weekday and weekend shifts, 08:00 - 20:00

Job Summary
We are seeking experienced Locum Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs) to provide high-quality patient care within a busy urgent care or emergency department setting. This is an ad-hoc role with flexible shifts available across weekdays and weekends. The successful candidate will work autonomously assessing, diagnosing and managing patients presenting with minor injuries and urgent conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Autonomous clinical practice within scope

  • Minor injury patient assessment and management

  • Advanced wound closures including suturing

  • X-ray interpretation

  • Plastering and immobilisation techniques

  • Wound care and dressings

  • Assessment and treatment of eye injuries

  • Burn assessment and care

  • Administering medications under Patient Group Directions (PGDs)

  • Accurate clinical documentation and adherence to clinical governance standards

  • Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with active NMC registration

  • Experience working as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Nurse Practitioner

  • Proven experience managing minor injuries in urgent care, walk-in centres, or emergency departments

  • Competence in suturing, plastering and X-ray interpretation

  • Experience administering medicines under PGDs

  • Ability to work independently and make autonomous clinical decisions

  • Excellent communication and patient assessment skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience in Urgent Treatment Centres (UTC) or Emergency Departments

  • Immediate Life Support (ILS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification

  • Experience using clinical systems such as SystmOne, EMIS or Adastra
