Job Description
Overview

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust have invested in the radiology team and are looking to recruit enthusiastic, motivated, skilled locum radiologists to join the team of thirteen consultant radiologists, 2 consultant sonographers and 2 consultant reporting radiographers.

The successful candidate will have an interest in cross sectional imaging and any subspecialist interest will be considered, but the Trust is particularly keen to recruit radiologists with a subspecialist interest in non-vascular intervention, paediatrics, nuclear medicine. An ability to undertake nonvascular interventional procedures required in a busy DGH would be an advantage, although any subspecialist interest would be considered. All other subspecialties will be considered depending on application volume and fulfilment of the posts.

The proposed job plan typically is 10 programmed activities. Part-time consultants are also welcome to apply with a minimum part-time pattern of 6 programmed activities. The successful candidate would support a cancer MDT with appropriate preparation time. CT, MR reporting, general and within their subspecialist interest. Ultrasound plus or minus some interventional activity and a small amount of plain film reporting. The Trust supports 1.5 SPA for personal development and individual quality with a further negotiable PA time for educational supervision or undertaking a lead role e.g., REALM lead, Audit lead, Guideline lead, and modality leads.

Main duties of the job
  1. These posts are offered as a 10 PA (session) arrangement subject to work schedule, agreed arrangements for organisation, and mutual agreement with the Clinical Lead. Part-time working pattern (minimum 6 PA) is negotiable based on mutual agreement and demand of the service and requires prior agreement with departmental management.
  2. The direct clinical care (DCC) includes emergency work, outpatient activities, multi-disciplinary meetings about direct patient care and administration related to the above. The supporting professional activities (SPA) include participation in training, medical education, continuous professional development, formal teaching, audit, clinical management and local clinical governance activities.
  3. This will typically consist of 10 sessions which will vary according to the experience and expertise of the candidate and departmental requirements.
  4. Additional SPA can be negotiated for extra Trust directed activity e.g., educational supervision, clinical tutor, audit lead appraiser duties (max 0.5 SPA).

The department offers a 7-day imaging service. Consultant Radiologists are resident on site until 8pm Monday to Friday on a rotational basis, and Saturday/Sunday for 6 hours. Consultants are not expected to be on site during their SPA time but must be able to attend within a reasonable time in an emergency. The job plan will be reviewed at 3 months and 6 months depending on the needs of the candidate and department, with further review on an annual basis.
