We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity for a Locum Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Oncologist to join the Children and Young People's Cancer Service. This is an 8PA post until 31.3.26 (Direct clinical care 7 PA. Supporting Activities 1 PA).
We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled colleague to join our team delivering expert care to children and young people with cancer. Our service has expanded in numbers and expertise with the advent of proton-beam radiotherapy and we are reviewing our workforce and looking to the future.
The role will involve managing the care of TYA patients with a range of oncological diagnoses together with supporting clinical oncologists to deliver PBT to external patients. Attending and on-call cover of paediatric oncology and teenage in-patients is a core part of the post.
The job plan will contain 8 Programmed Activities per week to be carried out on UCLH sites.
- On-Call: The post will contribute to the CYPCS acute on-call rota. This will be a 1:7 consultant on call for paediatric oncology and 1:7 weekends with ward rounds on site each day; and subsequently on call from home with return if necessary.

Main duties of the job- Emergency duties (including emergency work carried out during or arising from on-call)
- Attending: The post holder will be responsible for about 7.5 attending weeks per year, with clinical responsibility for acute oncology care in inpatient, ambulatory care, radiotherapy suites and outpatient environments. The expectation is for the conduct of a minimum of 2 formal ward rounds per week.
- Multi-disciplinary meetings or other meetings which relate directly to patient care. Core MDTs for the post holder will include germ cell, head and neck and NET MDTs and ad hoc availability for the GOSH joint children's MDT; the radiotherapy MDT; the molecular MDT and any other specialist MDT at the post holders discretion. There are additional requirements to attend psychosocial MDTs in paediatrics and separately in TYA, to advocate for own patients.
- Outpatient clinics. The post holder will conduct at least 2 clinics per week. One clinic will be dedicated to PBT and radiotherapy support and one in general oncology. A monthly joint clinic will provide paediatric oncology support for thyroid malignancies.

Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
- Subspecialty training in Paediatric Oncology or MRCPCH or equivalent
- On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attainment of CST in Paediatric at date of interview
- APLS provider
- A higher degree, MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent
- CESR qualification - where relevant
- Experience in safeguarding
- Senior clinical experience in managing teenage cancer
- Experience in supportive care of patients undergoing radiotherapy
- Membership/ Participation in national CCLG groups
- Level 3 safeguarding training
- Independent management of new paediatric oncology patients
- Evidence of ability to work effectively within MDTs
- Experience of clinical management of complex patients
- Familiarity with EPR
- Demonstrate ability to meet Trust Values of safety, kindness, teamwork and improving
- Fluent English - written and spoken
- Advanced communications course
- Experience in working within MDTs
- Experience of working with external networks
- Demonstratable understanding of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and/or Knowledge of the NHS obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duties
- Being familiar with, and adhering to Trust policies and guidance on infection prevention and control. Completing all required training and education (both via e learning and face to face) on infection prevention and control.
