Job Description
Locum Consultant Medical Oncologist - Lung Cancers (GSTT/ QEH)

The closing date is 07 June 2026

Less than full time post (7.25 PAs). Commencing as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job

The post includes MDMs, Acute Oncology Ward Rounds and clinics at Guy's and UHL. The Acute Oncology Service facilitates the safe and effective clinical management of patients who are either experiencing treatment based toxicity or progression of disease symptoms, and can be fast tracked to this unit rather than waiting in A&E.

Guy's hosts a well developed clinical trials unit and the team makes significant contributions to trial recruitment, including close interaction with the Phase 1 trials activity based in the Clinical Research Facility at GSTT.

Job responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated and experienced clinician with a specialist interest in Lung Cancers. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of established consultants including Prof James Spicer, Dr Sharmistha Ghosh, Alexandros Georgiou, Eleni Karapanagiotou, Spyros Gennatas and Daniel Hughes. The service is led by Dr Hartmut Kristeleit, Clinical Director for Oncology, and Dr Kiruthikah Thillai, Deputy Clinical Director for Medical Oncology.

As an organisation we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends.

Professional Qualifications
  • Hold MRCP
  • Full GMC Registration
  • On GMC Specialist List in Medical Oncology or within six months of attaining CCT
  • Possession of, or working towards, a higher degree qualification (MD or PhD)
Clinical Experience
  • Training in management of Lung cancers
  • Experience of multidisciplinary cancer care
  • Experience of clinical trial development and operation
  • Experience of Acute Oncology
  • Wide general experience in Medical Oncology and an ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems within the speciality
Skills
  • Track record of clinical governance, audit, management and IT skills required
  • Experience in clinical trials
  • Definite track record of research, publications / understanding / knowledge of Research ethics
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
  • Management of all aspects of care of patients with complex cancers undergoing intensive treatment
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
  • A background in discovery and development of new molecularly defined therapies
  • An awareness of current speciality specific developments, initiatives and issues. Evidence of training in research methodology

Salary

£113,565 to £150,569 a year p.a. excl LZ (Pro rata)
