Job overview

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Medical Oncologists in GI and AOS. The postholder will be employed by The Royal Marsden Hospital and based at the Sutton site for Gastrointestinal (GI) programme activities. They will play a pivotal role in delivering Acute Oncology Services at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust, as well as contributing to the GI service at The Royal Marsden Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be required to participate in the Royal Marsden out-of-hours medical oncology consultant on-call rota. Job planning will be undertaken collaboratively between the employer and postholder. The postholder will report to the Head of the GI Unit and be managed within the Division of Cancer Services.

Tumour-specific clinical commitments will be delivered within the GI Unit. Office accommodation and secretarial support will be provided at the Sutton site of The Royal Marsden Hospital. Clinical and research activities within the GI team are supported by resident doctors (HEE trainees and specialty registrars).

Person specification Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration and licence to practice
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent qualifications
  • CCT in Medical Oncology or equivalent or within 6 months' of obtaining it
  • Higher degree MD or PHD
Experience
  • Broad based experience in oncology, including systemic therapies
  • Significant experience in clinical and translational research
  • Significant interest and experience in the management of acute oncology patients
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate training experience
  • Management and leadership

Flu Vaccination - What We Expect of our Staff

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
