Job overviewThe postholder will provide high quality, consultant led care in lower limb surgery within Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with hip, knee and related musculoskeletal conditions. The role will involve elective and trauma services across outpatient clinics, operating theatres and inpatient ward settings, including periprosthetic and complex femoral fractures.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, and patient centred care, supporting the Trust's commitment to clinical excellence and continuous improvement. The postholder will contribute to service development, clinical governance, audit and teaching, including the supervision and training of junior medical staff.
Participation in departmental activities such as on call rotas, service planning and innovation will be expected, alongside maintaining the Trust's high standards of quality, safety and patient experience. The post holder's base hospital will be West Middlesex University Hospital, but will also be expected to work across multiple sites where required, such as the Elective Orthopaedic Centre at Central Middlesex Hospital.
Main duties of the jobThe weekly timetable includes fracture clinic, outpatient clinics, main theatre sessions, ward rounds and an allocated off day (which may need to be applied flexibly). The post also incorporates core SPA time, triaging, advice and guidance and participation in PTL meetings. The flexible DCC session may be used for either clinic or theatre work, with dedicated administrative time for list planning.
Person specification Skills and Knowledge- Solid understanding of the Clinical Governance Agenda
- Evidence of effective audit leading to change
- Evidence of significant contribution to the Clinical Governance Agenda
- Full GMC Registration
- Relevant CCT or equivalent
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or eligible within 6 months of the date of the Advisory
- Appointments Committee via CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview, CESR or European Community Rights
- Lower limb arthroplasty surgery fellowship
- Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council
- Broad based training, including experience in trauma management with a focus on lower limb injuries, including neck of femur and periprosthetic fractures.
- Logbook evidence demonstrating operative management of a wide range of elective and traumatic lower limb conditions.
- Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research
- Experience of implementing evidence based changes in practice
- Evidence of recent or ongoing research
- Experience supervising juniors doing research
Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
