The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Stroke Physician and Geriatrician. This joint post is between the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) at West Middlesex University Hospital and the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The appointment will involve 10 PAs and include 2 PAs at the HASU, participating in the 1:16 HASU on call rota. The consultant will be based on the Redlees ward at West Middlesex and will be responsible for both acute stroke patients and non stroke patients on the ward.
The appointee will provide inpatient stroke advice and outpatient services, including five day TIA clinics and stroke follow up clinics, supported by radiology and cardiac investigation departments. The role includes participation in the Regional HASU stroke rota ( Monday Sunday) and on call from home for nights, with expectations to attend thrombectomy patients when required.
Responsibilities- Provide inpatient stroke advice and manage acute stroke patients on the Redlees ward.
- Deliver outpatient services in TIA clinics and stroke follow up clinics.
- Participate in the 1:16 HASU on call rota and respond to on call duties from home.
- Coordinate with the Care of the Elderly department to ensure continuous Stroke Physician presence at West Middlesex.
- Work collaboratively with other consultants and multidisciplinary team members.
- CCT in Geriatric medicine (or within six months of CCT) or on the Specialist Register.
- Accreditation in General Medicine/Acute Medicine.
- MRCP or equivalent.
- Higher degree (e.g., PhD or MD).
- Research experience.
- Acute Internal Medicine SCE.
- Previous QIP experience.
- Broad experience in Acute and General Medicine.
- Teaching experience or willingness to teach medical, nursing and other staff.
- Experience of audit or clinical research.
- Understanding of the NHS and its organisation.
- Completed publications in appropriate journal(s).
- Previous experience in Orthogeriatrics.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead a team.
- Commitment to work with other consultants and multidisciplinary team members.
- Commitment to the achievement of Government and Trust targets.
- Willingness and ability to participate in the on call rota.
