We are recruiting a Locum Consultant in Otolaryngology with an interest in Head and Neck for a fixed 12 month post. The position is full time, 10 sessions per week, created to support elective recovery and the Head and Neck services within the ENT department. The successful applicant can start as soon as possible.
Location, Salary and ContractSite: Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust - Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) and Birmingham Treatment Centre (BTC). Salary: £109,725 - £145,478 per annum (yearly). Contract: 12 months (fixed term). Closing date: 22/06/:59.
Responsibilities- Deliver elective and emergency ENT care, including day case, outpatient clinic, and inpatient operating activities.
- Contribute to a 1 in 8 emergency non resident on call rota across all trust sites.
- Support training of undergraduate medical students, foundation and core trainees, specialty middle grades and resident doctors.
- Encourage and facilitate medical education, quality improvement, audit and research within the department.
- Engage in sustainable practice initiatives and support the Green Impact programme.
- FRCS (ORL HNS) or equivalent.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist register for Otolaryngology (or within 6 months of CCT or CESR at interview).
- Higher Degree (MSc/PhD).
- Training and experience equivalent to that required for a CCT in ENT, with a wide background in Head and Neck surgery.
- Full and independent responsibility for acute ENT emergencies and elective patient care.
- Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery preferred.
- Organise and prioritise workload effectively.
- Plan strategically and exercise sound judgments under pressure.
- Motivate and develop a multi disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives.
- Conduct clinical audit and use evidence based practice for decision making.
- Teach clinical skills to medical, nursing and other staff.
- Appraise junior doctors and support staff development.
- Formal training in teaching preferred.
- Apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
- Awareness of current specialty developments and initiatives.
- Experience with information technology in ENT.
- Publications in peer reviewed journals within the last five years.
- Evidence of original research undertaken.
- Energy, enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure.
- Enquiring and critical approach to work.
- Caring attitude towards patients.
- Effective communication with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and agencies.
- Commitment to continuing medical education and professional development.
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
- CCT in Otolaryngology or within 6 months of obtaining it.
- Appropriate immigration status (where applicable).
- Understanding of the NHS environment, particularly reforms and initiatives.
- Residence within a reasonable distance of MMUH.
- Ability to undertake clinical commitments at any of the Trust's sites.
- Work well with colleagues and within a multi disciplinary team.
