Locum Consultant in Microbiology

East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust has a fantastic opportunity available for a Locum Consultant post in Microbiology. This role could be an excellent fit for you.

This is a 6 month fixed term post based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The post consists of 10 programmed activities (PAs). Part time and job share applicants are welcome to apply.

The Locum Consultant Microbiologist will provide a proactive, dynamic, and consultative link between clinicians, patients, and the laboratory service. Responsibilities include advising on appropriate and timely investigations for microbial diseases, providing professional direction of the laboratory service, working with senior Biomedical staff to review the investigative repertoire and methodology, reporting and interpreting results, and giving advice on patient management.

Person Specification Qualifications / Training
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview, or provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register.
  • Applicants who are non UK trained must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT (CCT or equivalence in Medical Microbiology or Virology).
  • FRCPath in Microbiology, Microbiology/Infectious Disease, or equivalent.
  • Evidence of being up to date and fit to practice safely, and awareness of own training needs.
Previous Experience
  • Broad experience in microbiology, including laboratory diagnosis of infections and their treatment.
  • Experience supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues.
  • Ability to provide and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion.
  • Evidence of leading on patient safety issues and effecting change in practice.
  • Interest and experience in infection control.
Skills
  • Evidence of engagement with clinical governance, identification of errors, and learning from errors.
  • Experience with appraisal and revalidation.
