Salary: £113,565 - £150,569 per annum (dependent on experience)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will be expected to be independent in general ENT surgery with a focus on head and neck and management including benign disease and two week wait fast track referrals. There is an opportunity to tailor practice to include other disciplines of ENT surgery.

The Head and Neck Cancer and Thyroid service works as part of the tertiary group with Bradford and Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Weekly MDTs take place where complex activity is referred to our tertiary partners. The post holder will need to work with these teams at a high level to ensure patient care and transition is smooth.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise
  • Relevant Higher Degree
  • Specialist registration for ENT (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK)
Experience and Achievements
  • High level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the ENT specialty
  • Understanding of current issues within ENT and the future direction of the specialty
  • Understanding of current issues within the wider NHS
  • Attendance at a recognised management course
  • Ability to work with and lead others across professions
Teaching and Training
  • Experience and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non medical staff
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Attendance at a teaching course
  • Formal qualification in teaching/education
Audit and Research
  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods resulting in publications and Critical Appraisal Skills
  • Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects
  • Good communication and empathy skills with patients
  • Willingness to work in a multi disciplinary team environment to provide an integrated service
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, through communication and sharing workload
  • Ability to manage high pressure situations (clinical crisis)
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload and co ordinate staff
  • Ability to integrate the care of a patient by many and various other clinical staff

Other information

Applicants will need to undergo DBS checks. The Trust will administer the DBS check and recover the cost from salary. Participants will also need to take part in the DBS Update Service (£16 per year).
