Main duties of the job

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Locum Consultant in Haematopathology for 4 months. The service covers the local population and regional referrals from Wessex.

You will contribute to the established and experienced Haematopathology subspecialist reporting team, including reporting of lymphoma specimens and attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings.

The Southampton Haematopathology team consists of six consultants, with specific reporting responsibilities in lymphoma and bone marrow pathology. The team collaborates closely with the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service and provides diagnostic services for a large regional area.

Current team members include Dr Hadil Abu Arqoub, Dr Meg Ashton-Key, Dr Vipul Foria, Dr Sanjay Jogai, Dr Harriet Nitch-Smith, and Dr Emily Shaw, each with specific subspecialty focuses.

Job responsibilities

Provision of Haematopathology services, including microscopic reporting and multidisciplinary meetings, with a typical 10 PAs split between direct clinical care and SPA activities.

You will join an established team of five consultant Haematopathologists within a larger cellular pathology department, utilizing advanced digital and microscopy resources.

A job plan will be tailored and agreed upon prior to commencement, including cover arrangements and responsibilities during absences.

Participation in External Quality Assessment (EQA) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is expected, with dedicated SPA time for these activities.

Additional information

Applicants must be GMC registered and eligible to work in the UK. The position is under the terms of the Consultants (England) 2003 contract.

Person Specification Qualifications, Training & Experience
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC registration with a license to practice
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification, with evidence of portfolio completion or CESR pathway if applicable
  • NHS experience in Haematopathology at the consultant level
  • Strong clinical judgment and teamwork skills
  • Experience in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
