Job Overview

This Consultant Haematology posting in the Clinical Haematology Department at Manchester Royal Infirmary is part of the Clinical Service Unit of In Patient Medical Specialties. The post holder will provide on call provision for haemato oncology (1:8) and will work within the haemato oncology, stem cell transplant, CAR T and gene therapy service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work within haemato oncology, stem cell transplant, CAR T and gene therapy service.
  • Participate in the on call rota for haemato oncology.
  • Undertake laboratory duties in line with clinical interests.
  • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, inside and outside the Trust.
  • Actively participate in clinical trials programme in transplantation, cellular and gene therapies.
  • Provide cross cover for annual/study leave and short term sickness for other consultants in the department on a rotational basis.
Qualifications & Training
  • MB.ChB or equivalent.
  • Higher qualification (FRCPath or equivalent).
  • Completion of core medical training (MRCP(UK) or equivalent).
  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview).
  • For UK trained applicants: holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • For non UK trained applicants: evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent (e.g., MD or PhD).
Management & Administration
  • Ability to organiser and manage a busy clinical practice.
  • Ability to manage and lead a medical firm.
  • Management training.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Organisational skills.
Academic Achievements / Research
  • Specialist interest in Haemato oncology.
  • Publications in recognised medical and haematology journals.
  • Research projects relating to the specialist area.
Teaching and Audit
  • Teaching of medical students and junior medical staff.
  • Experience of audit.
  • Ability and experience to teach clinical skills.
  • Experience of supervising specialist trainees.
Other Requirements
  • Specialist registration with the General Medical Council and licence to practice.
