Job OverviewOur Trust is committed to career development which allows us to look out for individuals who are proactive, motivated, forward thinking and dynamic to join our clinical team. This post is an important part of our ongoing development of General and Emergency Surgery at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and is part of an expansion to meet the rising demand of General Surgery in our area. The successful applicants will be offered the opportunity to work closely with the existing surgical consultants in the Trust to provide a high standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.
Main Duties of the JobThe successful candidate will have a job plan comprising some on call night/weekend cover and backfill/flexible clinical sessions. The rota will be given 4-6 weeks in advance of commitments taking place. The successful candidate would be expected to work with the existing Consultants to provide a high quality General Service at the Trust and provide a Colonoscopy service.
Qualifications / Training- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
- Licence to practice
- Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) related to General Surgery (eg Masters / MD / MRes / PhD etc)
- Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors
- Evidence of engagement with appraisal and revalidation
- Wide range of experience in General Surgery
- Demonstrable training in Colorectal Surgery
- Evidence of independent lower gastrointestinal endoscopy practice
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training, and other colleagues
- Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent diagnostic opinion, and to be able to take full responsibility for independent management of patients
- Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Demonstrable experience and participation in research
- Experience of General Surgery in UK Major Hospital
- Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
