Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology - Scotland - FTC

Triple West Medical has been appointed by an NHS organisation based in SW Scotland to help recruit a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology for a substantive post. They are also considering a Locum Fixed Term Contract for a minimum of 12 months.

The NHS Trust delivers integrated acute and community health services to a population of around 350,000 across multiple sites with over 8,000 staff.

They are based in Scotland's southwest region, with scenic coastline and close proximity to Glasgow. The area has an active postgraduate programme in the local Deanery, and consultants are encouraged to participate in teaching activities for the specialty trainees.

The Consultant-led Outpatient Service is based in the Diabetes Day Centre. The Diabetes Team offers a range of patient-focused services using extended scope practices involving nursing, dietetics, pharmacy, and podiatry staff, in addition to traditional Consultant-led clinics, to meet standards of care as laid out by the Diabetes Framework and NHS Quality Improvement.

The post-holders can expect to see a wide range of clinical presentations. The service functions as an integrated team, contributing to outpatient and inpatient care. The duties are mainly focused on specialist outpatient activity in Endocrinology & Diabetes. The posts also include rotational supervision of an 8-bedded inpatient Diabetes & Endocrinology Acute Assessment area, duties in the Combined Assessment Unit, and participation in the out-of-hours general medical on-call rota (1:7 weekends and 1:21 nights). Day case activities are supported by the Medical Day Unit.

  • Delivery of high-quality, efficient, and responsive clinical care to patients
  • Teaching, accreditation, and examination duties, as well as contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, in line with College recommendations on Continuing Medical Education
  • Participation in research and development of relevant subspecialty interests, subject to resources and local priorities
  • Engagement in medical audit and continuing medical education
  • Managerial responsibilities, including budget management where appropriate
