Job Description
Job Overview

This is an outstanding opportunity for consultants to join our team of 14 Acute Physicians at the Acute Medicine Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. The acute medical unit (AMU) in Blackburn is the longest continuously operating AMU in the country. The post-holder will participate in senior overview of management of all patients in the department, with consultants present on the unit from 8:00 till 20:30 seven days a week.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Sharing overall responsibilities of the AMU.
  • Hands on involvement with medical admissions ensuring the timely development of appropriate management plans for patients.
  • Employing alternatives to in patient management where clinically appropriate.
  • Supervision and co ordination of junior doctors within the unit.
  • Helping to maintain multi professional systems of care for common conditions.
  • Teaching and training of medical and nursing staff, both informal and formal.
  • Adherence to the clinical governance framework.
Person Specification
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Inclusion on Specialist Register or due admission to register within 6 months.
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • ACLS/ALS qualification.
  • Higher Degree.

Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check. The cost of an enhanced disclosure is £55.38 and of a standard disclosure is £27.38.
