Locum Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon

Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. The appointee will join a dynamic and motivated team to augment the provision of specialist colorectal services to a population of approximately 350'000.
The Colorectal Unit at Raigmore is a friendly and inclusive team and currently consists of 8 Colorectal Surgeons, 1 Physician Associate, 1 Cancer Single-Point-Of-Contact and 4 Clinical Nurse Specialists. The team provides a full range of elective colorectal services for patients across NHS Highland and NHS Western Isles, including Robotic-assisted surgery (RAS), Colon & Rectal Cancer resection, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Pelvic Health, Proctology and Advanced Endoscopy.
As a result of a substantive consultant colleague sabbatical, the team are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the unit for 12 months. Depending on skillset and previous experience, it is anticipated the post-holder will contribute to a full range of colorectal & general surgical activity including regular outpatient clinics, elective theatre sessions and endoscopy. JAG certification in lower GI endoscopy is highly desirable. The colorectal unit also runs a system where there is a defined Colorectal 'Surgeon of the Week', responsible for leading inpatient ward rounds, supervising nurse-led vetting, answering generic emails and reviewing inpatient referrals and it is anticipated that the post-holder would contribute to this.
The successful candidate will also join with colleagues in General, Oesophago-gastric and Hepatobiliary surgery to participate in the Emergency General Surgery (EGS) on-call rota on a 1:12 basis. A broad experience in emergency general and gastrointestinal surgery is therefore essential.
