Job Description

Applications are invited for enthusiastic and highly motivated anaesthetists to join our friendly and supportive department.

Role Overview

We are seeking to recruit a 6 month locum Consultant Anaesthetist to our department of 25 whole time equivalents. This role has arisen due to vacancies.

Position Details

This is a whole time consultant role (10.5 PAs). On call commitment equates to 1:8 which involves covering theatres and level 2 critical care services. The role is non resident on call and attracts a 5% salary uplift in addition to the weekly clinical job plan. The advertised 10.5 PA already includes this allocation. Job plans will include 1.5 core SPA with up to 1 SPA available on taking on additional roles.

Clinical Duties
  • Provide anaesthesia for complex arthroplasty, including revision surgery, spinal surgery (degenerative and deformity), musculoskeletal oncology surgery, and interventional radiology.
  • Cover theatres, pre operative assessment sessions, resident high dependency rota, and level 2 critical care services.
  • Contribute to pre operative assessment, the High Dependency Unit, acute and chronic pain, and assist in developing an acute pain service.
  • Support peri operative medicine teaching for Aston University.
  • Participate in clinical governance, research and management within the hospital.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • Consultant level experience in anaesthesia.
  • Strong interest in peri operative medicine, complex orthopaedic anaesthesia and regional anaesthesia.
  • Able to contribute to the successful completion of ACSA within two years (Accreditation of Clinical Services in Anaesthesia).
