Job Description
Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a locum consultant post with the potential to work across Lung, Sarcoma, Germ Cell and/or Acute Oncology services. This is available as a full or part time position with a 12 month fixed term contract at The Christie.

Responsibilities

The postholder will join a medical oncology team comprising 59 consultants and 24 SpRs plus Clinical Fellows. Key duties include:

  • Sarcoma - Delivering two clinics per week, attending weekly sarcoma meetings, participating in the GMOSS MDT, and supporting chemotherapy delivery. Participation in the 1:3 rotation ward round and on call rota.
  • Germ Cell - Providing comprehensive clinical service in outpatient, inpatient and ambulatory settings, working with the multidisciplinary team, and supporting acute oncology coverage.
  • Lung - Supporting the lung team at Christie and Wythenshawe, working in an outpatient 'one stop clinic', inpatient cover, board rounds, ward rounds and hot line issues. Coordinating with thoracic surgeons, respiratory physicians and the Wythenshawe chemotherapy unit.
  • Acute Oncology - Managing non elective admissions related to cancer treatment, leading ward rounds, supervising junior doctors, ensuring timely assessment and discharge, and liaising with the oncology team for senior support.

All specialties require participation in routine MDTs, teaching junior staff, audit and research, and support of clinical trials where applicable.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Entry onto the General Medical Council specialist register (CCT or CESR).
  • Evidence of productive, ethical oncology research.
  • Recent publications in peer reviewed journals.
Person Specification
  • Broad experience across medical oncology disease groups and clinical trials.
  • Experience and evidence in teaching undergraduates and postgraduate staff.
  • Strong leadership, team working and communication skills.
  • Self motivation, ability to demonstrate knowledge of own limitations, and ability to motivate a team.

Salary

£113,565 to £150,569 per annum (pro rata).
