Job Description

Linux Vulnerability/Remediation Management Engineer

We're looking for an experienced Linux Vulnerability/Remediation Management Engineer to join a major, high-profile technology and security programme, taking ownership of vulnerabilities across a large and complex Linux estate. This is a highly visible programme with significant scrutiny around vulnerability remediation, so we need someone who has operated within large-scale, business-critical environments and is comfortable driving activity across multiple technical teams and senior stakeholders.

The role will have a strong focus on Linux vulnerability management and remediation, but importantly, we need someone who understands vulnerabilities beyond the operating system itself. You'll be dealing with vulnerabilities associated with OpenSSL and third-party applications and components such as PHP, understanding dependencies, assessing the potential impact of upgrades and patches, and working with application, infrastructure and security teams to determine the right remediation approach. You should be comfortable working with CVEs, vulnerability scanning, patching, package management, application dependencies, remediation planning and security risk across complex Linux environments.

This isn't simply a role for someone to identify vulnerabilities and produce reports. We need someone who can take ownership and drive remediation through to completion. You'll need to understand why something can't simply be patched, identify the teams and applications potentially affected, challenge technical blockers and help establish a safe route to remediation without creating unnecessary operational risk.

Just as importantly, you'll need the confidence and presence to operate within a high-profile programme. We need someone pragmatic but assertive, comfortable challenging technical teams, escalating where appropriate and holding stakeholders accountable for remediation activity. You'll be working in an environment where vulnerabilities are highly visible, deadlines matter and progress will be scrutinised, so you'll need to be comfortable operating under pressure and driving results.

This would suit someone with strong Linux vulnerability management experience, particularly across OpenSSL, PHP and other third-party applications/components, who has previously worked on large, complex and high-visibility security or infrastructure remediation programmes.
