We are looking for a proactive Licensing Administrator to join our friendly and collaborative team at Hertsmere Borough Council. This is a great opportunity to support a range of licensing services while developing knowledge and experience within a busy local authority environment.

The role involves handling customer enquiries, processing licence applications, maintaining accurate records, issuing documentation and supporting the smooth running of the Licensing service and supporting the Licensing Officers. You will also work closely with colleagues, partner organisations and members of the public to provide advice and resolve routine queries.

The role will predominantly focus on the licensing of premises under the Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005 as well as the regulatory regimes related to Scrap Metal, street trading and pavement licences. However, some work may be required to support the private hire and taxi licensing functions.

You will need strong administrative and communication skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience in a licensing, regulatory or customer-focused environment would be advantageous, along with a good understanding of current legislation and a willingness to learn new regulations and procedures.

The post is offered on a permanent, full time basis (36 hours per week).

Benefits include:

  • 27 - 32 days annual leave (depending on length of Local Gvt Service) - plus all bank holidays
  • Flexi-Leave - accrue extra hours & exchange for up to 2 days leave per month
  • Free gym membership
  • Cycle schemes (Cycle to Work Scheme and free Beryl Bike rides for staff)
  • Employee Assistance Programme

The Council operates a hybrid working system where employees may work up to three days per week from home, depending on business needs. Within the Licensing section, support officers are generally expected to be in the office at least 3 days a week.
