Licensing Officer - 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

LICENSING OFFICER

This role is an excellent opportunity to contribute to effective licensing delivery across the borough, working closely with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders to ensure fair, safe, and compliant services.

Are you passionate about public protection and compliance? We're looking for a Licensing Officer to join our team and help ensure businesses and residents comply with licensing legislation. Provide advice and guidance to all partners and applicants on the licensing process and requirements.

What you'll do:
  • Administer and process licensing applications.
  • Inspect premises and enforce licensing laws. During working hours and out of hours including occasional weekends.
  • Investigate complaints and service requests.
  • Advise councillors, businesses, and residents on licensing matters.
  • Prepare reports and attend Licensing Sub-Committee hearings.
  • Work closely with partners to promote Licensing Objectives under the Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005, Special Treatments, Boot Fairs, Animals, Scrap Metal Dealers/Collectors, Sports Ground Safety.
  • Work on Safety Advisory Groups for both Football and Event Safety activities.
What we're looking for:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Health and licensing legislation.
  • Experience in a related field.
  • Local authority experience would be an advantage.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Environmental Health degree or Licensing law certification).
  • Full driving licence and flexibility to work outside normal hours.
Special requirements:

This role involves face-to-face contact with dissatisfied individuals; training in conflict resolution is desirable.
