The Hive College is based in Erdington, Birmingham and is a Specialist Further Education College for learners aged 19-25 years with Special Educational Needs and disabilities. In November 2023 we were graded Outstanding in every single aspect of an Ofsted Inspection.
Our adopted college motto is 'Believing is achieving', which resonates through everything we do at The Hive and it's at the heart of what we want our students to aspire to. We constantly strive for excellence, seeking innovative and collaborative ways of delivering the curriculum. As part of our on-going development of a highly successful specialist college, we have an Employability Coach vacancy to join our team of professional and dedicated people.
The college is a very happy and positive working environment. All staff are friendly and very supportive, we have excellent facilities and a superb environment to support teaching and learning and prepare our students for adulthood.
We offer three individualised study programmes for students with PMLD, SLD, MLD and ASD. Our study programmes focus on preparation for adulthood, which include:
- Employment
- Independent living
- Good health
- Friends, relationships and community
- An NVQ Level 3 Vocational or Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent), plus minimum GCSE English and Maths Grade C and above (or equivalent).
- A good understanding of how students learn and develop in education.
- The ability to support the work placement team in meeting the needs of all students, including mentoring, pastoral care and assisting with the physical care of students as and when required.
- The ability to work with individuals and small groups of students.
- Excellent communication and written skills with high expectations of learning and behaviour.
- The skills to support students in the workplace and whilst out in the community.
- A collaborative and inclusive culture that values every employee.
- A committed, hardworking team who strive to provide the best education for all students.
- Comprehensive induction and probation support and regular opportunities for professional development and growth.
- 10 staff training days across the academic year; one or two of these days may be aggregated which means completing training outside of normal working hours in twilight sessions.
- An Employee Assistance Programme via the BHSF App - including free totally confidential support, access to a GP 24/7 and counselling.
- Access to discounts and offers at many well-known retailers and other organisations via the BHSF App.
- Access to a generous pension scheme known as the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for support staff or Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS) for Teachers.
- Generous annual leave entitlement for support staff based on length of service, starting at 29 days pro-rata, rising to 32 at 5 years' plus service and 34 following 10 years' plus service. Teachers annual leave is in line with Teachers Pay & Conditions.
