Job Description 3-month contract role with a local authority Summary
  • This is a 3-month contract role with a local authority, designed to provide a comprehensive, high-quality legal service to internal stakeholders, including Council departments, maintained schools, and associated organisations. The position requires independently managing allocated legal work, delivering value for money, maintaining strong client communication, and ensuring compliance with professional standards such as Lexcel.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver legal advice and support across a range of Local Authority matters, with a focus on housing disrepair.
  • Manage a personal caseload, including drafting legal documents, providing advice, and representing the Council in court where appropriate.
  • Support senior lawyers in ensuring the Council complies with all legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide proactive, solution-focused legal advice to internal clients.
Requirements: Essential Experience Required
  • Experience in or a strong interest in housing disrepair law.
  • Practical experience in at least one other legal area (e.g., housing, litigation, property, prosecutions, governance).
  • Experience of managing a varied caseload with minimal supervision.
Essential Qualifications Required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to advise clients clearly in English.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Professional, courteous, and client-focused approach.
Additional Information
  • Working hours: 35 hours per week.
  • Hybrid working: 2 days in the office. For the first week, the candidate will be required to come in for a minimum of 4 days to learn our processes.
  • We operate on a bi-weekly schedule.
