Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to join our team at APM Terminals Algeciras. This strategic role is responsible for advising terminal management on all legal matters, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading the management of claims, insurance, and compliance processes.
️ Key Responsibilities
- Advise terminal management on local legislation, statutory obligations, and regulatory frameworks.
- Represent the terminal in legal and regulatory hearings.
- Manage relationships with external legal firms and government authorities.
- Lead legal matters related to real estate and port concessions.
- Oversee environmental compliance and operational permitting.
- Negotiate and review contracts with suppliers, contractors, and port authorities.
- Coordinate tender processes and contractual negotiations.
- Stay updated on legislative and regulatory changes.
- Lead legal risk assessments and provide practical, solution-oriented advice.
- Deliver internal training on legal topics to other business areas.
Claims and Insurance Management
- Oversee material claims and coordinate with insurers.
- Maintain databases and documentation for audits and compliance.
- Align claims processes with corporate policies.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. Finance, Legal, Compliance) to support the alignment of claims and insurance processes with broader company policies.
- Provide oversight and guidance on company insurance matters, assisting in policy management and claim processes in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to process improvements and help ensure continuous compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder Interaction
- Internal: Cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Procurement, Compliance, Investment, etc.
- External: Regulatory authorities, law firms, consultants, and contractors.
Candidate Profile
- University degree in Spanish Law (or equivalent).
- Minimum 7 years of legal experience, preferably in ports, infrastructure, or logistics.
- Strong knowledge of corporate, regulatory, and commercial law.
- Experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
- Familiarity with public administration legal processes.
- Analytical mindset, strong communication skills, and results-oriented.
- Fluent in Spanish and English (additional languages are a plus).
