Work ArrangementAcademics may work the standard Monday Friday daytime model or a flexible teaching timetable, including evenings and Saturday daytime classes. The role requires a presence of at least 3 4 days a week on the Ealing London campus, with 1 day working from home. Hybrid working arrangements are a non contractual benefit and may change during employment.
About the DepartmentThe Foundation Degrees department offers vocational and work based learning, aimed at widening participation and disadvantaged student groups. The Centre for Academic Persistence provides support for first year students, including Foundation Year programmes, CertHE support, 'On Track' progression, resit support, and university wide orientation events.
About the OpportunityLecturers are needed to support delivery of the FdA Business & Innovation programme, with teaching up to hours per week, academic support, office hours, tutorials, and cover rota facilitation. Module development in the first 2 years is included, with potential for module leadership.
Responsibilities- Deliver engaging and dynamic lectures, both face to face and online, for blended and distance learning students.
- Take on module leadership, ensuring consistent quality and development of learning materials and schemes of work.
- Oversee assessment marking, create authentic assessments, and provide high quality feedback.
- Lead or support the creation of new programmes and refresh existing ones to align with industry trends and employer requirements.
- Collaborate with colleagues to provide academic advice and support to students.
- Drive innovation in teaching methods, student support, and assessment.
- Assist with student orientation weeks (online and face to face on campus).
- Support students with their assessments, including 1 1s, group tutorials and scaffolded assessment feedback sessions.
- Assist students through reminders and tracking those at risk of non submission via phone calls, online 1 1 tutorials and face to face assessment tutorials.
- Work closely to develop our assessment and resit clinics.
- Develop/create interactive videos, podcasts and activities that can be shared on our VLE and in class.
We are looking for individuals who understand the challenges to student engagement in a university setting and have experience teaching Business / Innovation and academic skills in this subject area. You must be positive and empathetic, ensuring you further engage students with their studies and achieve positive student outcomes.
Essential Skills / Experience- Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification relevant to the teaching area.
- Recognised HE Teaching Qualification and/or Advance HE Fellowship at FHEA/SFHEA level or commitment to gain this recognition within 12 months of appointment.
- Evidence of CPD showing commitment to enhancing knowledge and teaching capability, including practical teaching methods and techniques.
